Sonja Ams| Wellness Home
The concept of a Wellness Home is based upon a comprehensive understanding that long-term health depends on many factors including environment, lifestyle, nutrition and rejuvenation. It has its roots in the more global concept of the 5 pillars of health: healthy mind, body, family, society and finances, whereby an optimal environment is created by addressing, and balancing, each of these areas. Just think of a seedling being grown in a green house where just the right amount of sunlight, moisture, and protection from the elements allows it to flourish into a lush, green plant. Creating a Wellness Home provides us with an optimal environment that nourishes, protects and energizes us in much the same way.

Sleep
Sleep is the foundation of health. While you are sleeping, your body restores itself by repairing cells and regenerating energy. Your body, in its infinite wisdom, will do that for you as long as you are getting the best quantity and quality sleep you require.
From 1969 to 2001, the average number of hours we sleep dropped from 8.5 to 7.0 hours per night.
Sleep is the number one factor in self-healing, and we spend one-third of our life asleep. Most people either have a hard time falling asleep or difficulty staying asleep. Perhaps you are one of them. If so, you probably know what it feels like to wake up tired, almost as if you hadn’t slept at all. How could this be? In order to obtain deep, rejuvenating sleep, a person must go through all 5 stages of sleep. So, quality sleep not only rebuilds and repairs the body, it also prepares us for the energy demands of our day.
Quality sleep also plays a role in our general outlook, our cognitive abilities, and our overall health. Studies suggest that those who get adequate quality sleep experience more mental clarity, demonstrate improved task performance, are happier, and even live longer!
Metal springs and coils are unsafe to sleep on. They actually collect electricity and therefore can block a person’s magnetic field which in turn blocks a person from getting into a deep, rejuvenating sleep.
Water
The Wellness Home begins with water. We drink it, bathe in it and cook with it, so it must be free of chlorine, sediment, heavy metals, pesticides, and pharmaceutical drugs. It also has to be water that is not “over-cleaned,” or stripped of virtually all its vital minerals and left with an acidic pH. Every function of the body is regulated and controlled by water. Every single cell, tissue, and organ needs water to function optimally. As you can see, water is such an incredibly important part of our health.
Air
While food, water and sleep are all important, air is the most immediate need. It’s something we use several times a minute! What could be more worthwhile than improving air quality? The groups who spend the most time at home are children and the elderly. Good indoor air quality is even more essential for them.
Nutrition
For optimal health, food really is your best medicine! Nutrition is vital for your health and well-being. Good nutrition involves eating a wide range of foods to ensure we get the full complement of nutrients. Unfortunately, our soils are more depleted than they were many years ago, and this has caused a deficiency of trace minerals. It is tragic that we can no longer depend on food to provide all the nutrients we need for vibrant health. It has become a necessity to supplement with high quality vitamins, minerals and enzymes.
The doctor of the future will give no medicine but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease.
Thomas Edison
Let thy food be thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food, leave your drugs in the Chemist’s pot if you can cure the patient with food.
